Ruby loves Atlanta 8 reasons why
1. Oakland Cemetery, Wow what a magnificent city treasure! I took Ruby when the irises where in full bloom - gorgeous flowers everywhere. Doggie's are welcome and there is water available for your friend at the gift shop. The water supply anywhere out of the fancy faucets are a mirage and do not work. Poop bags are provided at the gate entrance. I never did find a bathroom for myself but there are establishments across the street that also look great for a lunch. 2. Dog River Creek Library and nature trails, Located in the suburbs of Atlanta this place was a score. Not only does it have a wonderful nature trails with brand new bathroom and water fountain for doggies but it is a really nice library. I scored big on this place because it has, on loan, free tickets to local attractions. You can take out a week pass to The Georgia State Park system , renewable online for an additional week. I was also able to go to Center for Puppetry Arts and if you are into it the Atlanta Zoo for up to 4 people for free. . On 5/14/2018 Charlie, Ruby and I went for a hike and were attacked by ticks. FYI still a great place just protect yourself and maybe wait for end of spring.
3. Douglas Oaks Animal Hospital Ruby loves her vet. I walked into several vets in the area and liked this place the best. Down to earth and reasonably priced. Tell them Ruby sent you and get $10 off your first visit. Only if you like your service give them a 5 star Facebook review and get another $10.00 off.

4. Penola Mountain. Another nice park in the Georgia State Park system. This dog friendly visitor center was equipped with friendly rangers, a doggie water bowl and even a treat inside the visitor center! They love their dog visitors here. The two trails right outside of the center were perfect for her, both about a mile. Always remeber your poop bags. Easy human restrooms for handlers. 5. Sweetwater Creek State Park This park makes you feel like you are in the middle of the county but you are really in a suburb of Atlanta that only takes 20 minutes to get to downtown or the airport. With 2,549 Acres and 15 miles of trails exploring was endless though I would encourage drinking water out of the streams, it is well cared for State park and dog friendly. Dogs aren't allowed in the gift shop but the do have a clean bathroom and well marked trails and always an abundance of people for socializing your puppy. I would recommend this park to anyone traveling with animals with long layovers from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson. For just $5.00 you can exercise you fur friend and help with your own jet lag. 6. The Jimmy Carter President Library and Museum. I discovered this wonderful utopia for dogs when Ruby and I went to check out The Freedom Dog Park. We found some nice friends but it was a little worn, dirty and didn't have any facilities. Charlie and I had visited the library in the winter and bought a annual pass for $40.00. It included ,The price of admission for both my husband and myself to visit the museum, a signed book Keeping Faith , and access to all other Presidential Libraries. In my travels I have been to Nixon's, Reagan's, and Clinton's. It has nothing to do with politics but American history. I find them very interesting and I learn something new about each President as a person. Image what type of world we would be living in now if the United States kept and upgraded the solar panels on The White House? Jimmy Carter was ahead of his time. This place is like stepping back into the 70's and in a good way. Please never remodel. So anyway I stopped to use the restroom and I was so happy to see this sign. Since I was a member I didn't feel bad about using the free, covered with a canopy of trees, parking. I certainly can do that and I even brought my own poop bag.
Ruby and I had a wonderful romp on the grounds.

7. The BeltLine We had so much fun exploring the energy of the Belt Line in Atlanta. It seams to be a vein that circles the city pumping art inspiration, exercise alternatives , and trail magic droppings. ( trail magic article coming soon) Ruby was once again a star with her trail magic being lots of attention. Our physical trail magic was this 2 delicious cold Hubert's Lemonade. Thanks Hubert.
We started at Eastside Trail, Atlanta, GA 30308 at Ponce City Market. BeltLine Shed. Fun people everywhere. Great place for lunch. Free parking free walking.
8. Piedmont Park. In the heart of Atlanta is Piedmont Park. This park is enourmous and is a doggie oasis in the city. My puppy was very popular - almost a rock star, with adoring fans everywhere. The park has a Tavern outside for great people watching. It felt like we were at the beach. Parking is weird and all over. We opted to pay $5.00 intead of trying to negotitate a side street with a puppy, but the park is free and next time we will circle around for that elusive free parking. There are two well equipped dog parks: one for big dogs and one for small dogs. There is also an excessable and clean human bathroom. Poop bags and fresh water for everyone. The hostile dogs are shamed and pointed out quick. Very friendly vibe of happy people and happy doggies. Not free today
